Recorder control

Recorder control is the common interface for recording and playing back an RTI session. The Recorder listens to RTI traffic and stores messages and measurements in a log, together with session metadata such as the scenario, launch configuration, participants, applications, and parameter values.

While a session is active, applications can request information about the current log or create a new one. They can also add and remove named marks at significant simulation times. Marks are useful for highlighting events that an operator, instructor, or automated application may want to revisit during analysis or playback.

Stored logs can be listed, searched, locked, unlocked, and—when permitted—deleted. Loading a log makes it the source for playback. Playback itself follows the common runtime control messages for playing, pausing, seeking, changing time scale, and stopping, so participating applications see recorded messages in the same form as live RTI traffic.

A log can also be loaded as a reference log alongside the current session. Applications that support reference data can use it for comparison without replacing the main recording or playback log.

The RTI control panel provides the normal operator interface for recording and playback, while the CLI exposes the same controls for scripting and inspection. The A/V Recorder follows runtime control as well, allowing audio and video to remain synchronized with the RTI data log.

Recorder control and log metadata are defined in the RTI contract and included in the RTI client libraries.
